Q14: Are the 11x17 submissions to be send as hard copies as well as digital, or strictly digital?

Including them as digital versions only is fine.

Q13: Is it possible to have some information, or even a map of the transport system of the Downtown, bus stops etc.?

I'll be the first to admit that those maps aren't the easiest to come by.  After a bit of searching...

The menu on the right leads you to various route options (downloadable in pdf)

But I suspect the ones you are looking for are:

Monday to Friday routes for the Downtown:

Q12: Should submission material be in your hands BY October 10th or ON Ocboter 10th?

All submission material should be here BY THE END OF THE DAY OF October 10th.

They can therefore, be delivered on that date.

SCALES OF CAD FILES

I've been getting a few inquiries regarding the scale of the CAD files.

I believe that in model space, they are to scale; in paper space however, they are at a scale of 1:40000.

You should also note that the units are in METRES.  I measured the road width of 'Durham Street' in the file and it came to be +/- 20 metres.  This is a realistic measurement.

I hope this helps...

Q10: Is there any information in the NOSOA Feasibility Study relavent to the competition? If yes, should the Feasibility Study be added to the other downloadable files?

A10: The feasibility study is summarized in the competition brief.  I didn't want to include it in the package because of its length - but have obviously left it online for the curious.

Take from it what you like - but it's not a requirement.

Q9: What scale is the AutoCAD file "City of Greater Sudbury"?

A9: I believe the drawing should be scaled UP by 4.  Make sure the street widths are logical to ensure you're to scale.

Q8: I downloaded the contour map that you posted on the design competition web site. It looks great, but I didn't see any markers that denoted the elevation.

A8:  I am in the process of retrieving this information and will post it as soon as I can get it.

Q7: Is there a specific registration form on line ? Also I would like to confirm eligibility for this competition. I am a recent graduate.

A7:  There is not a specific registration form.  Entrants only need to forward (for each team member) their full name, email address, phone number, school they are enrolled in (or graduated from), program they are enrolled in (or graduate from).

As long as you, or one of your team members, have graduated from an accredited school of architecture, you are welcome to enter.

Q6: Where can the external reference images attached to the downtown building footprint plans be located? When the plan is downloaded, the images do not come along with it.

A6:  The image file that was attached to the .dwg file (with building footprints) was not included (it is an aerial of the same area).  The information on the image file and the .dwg file showed conflicting data because they are representing different years.

The building footprint file is more recent and therefore, the most correct version of the two.

Q5: What scales are the .dwg files in?

A5:  The scales of the drawing files are 4x smaller than reality.  They will have to be scaled up in CAD to suit.

Q4: Is it intended primarily for currently enrolled students and recent graduates? Or are young professionals also eligible?

A4:  It is for all three - current students, recent graduates and those who have, at any point, received a degree from an accredited school of architecture.
