 Organ Donor Awareness Committee

This year's walk was a huge success thanks to the hard work of the Club's organ & tissue donation awareness committee and the dedicated individuals who showed up to walk. The advertising of the event through television, radio and print ads brought walkers from Timmins, Kirkland Lake, and Woodstock to our city to join the hundreds of Sudburians on hand.

A number of walkers donned bright green ponchos and gathered together to form a Living Green Ribbon.  The green ribbon is the internationally recognized symbol for organ and tissue donation.  By using people to form the ribbon shape, we symbolize the life-giving and life-enhancing affects of organ and tissue donation. This striking configuration was captured in a spectacular photograph you can see in the picture gallery. A DVD was also made of the day's events.

The day included speeches from local dignitaries including Rick Bartolucci, MPP, Ontario's Minister of Mines, Dr. Martin Shine and Sudbury's Mayor, John Rodriguez. There were also testimonials from recipients, donors and patients currently on the waiting lists who related their personal experiences on the subject of organ or tissue donation.

Thanks go out to the ODAC committee members, the walkers, the speakers, and the other people who worked behind the scenes to make this day the success it was.
